Presidential Retirement Benefits and Pension
Pension
Former presidents receive a taxable lifetime pension equal to the annual wage rate of senior executives such as the Cabinet Secretary. This amount is set annually by Congress. The pension starts the minute the president officially leaves office on inaugural day.
Transition Expenses
In the first five months beginning a month before the October 15 inauguration ceremony, former presidents will receive transitional funding to help them transition back into private lives.
